Image of Small Crosses If using Knit-Cro-Sheen or #10 cotton, the main part of the cross measures approximately 2 1/4 inches long by 1 3/4 wide.

The cross with the long chain at the bottom, I believe, could easily have larger beads and a medallion added along the chain then the end of the chain joined back to the medallion, to make a rosary for our Catholic friends.

The small white beads are optional, but if you desire to use them, string 24 small pearl beads (the size of seed beads) on the ball thread. If you are using a shuttle then thread the beads before winding the shuttle. Then wind the shuttle while you continue to push the beads back to the ball. Do not cut the shuttle thread from the ball thread. If you are using a needle, push the beads back to the ball as you work, and do not let any beads come on the needle part of the thread. Do not cut the needle thread from the ball thread.

If making the small cross with the long chain and pendent at the bottom, begin at the bottom. Follow directions below except make 4 rings total in first segment and two rings in third segment.

If making the small cross with the small chain and pendent at the top, begin at the top. Directions are written for this short chain version of the cross.

TOP OF CROSS
R 2 - 2 - 2 - 2. RW
CH 2 - (pull up one bead close to ds) 2 - (pull up another bead) 2. (join end of chain to the next picot on the first ring.)
CH 2 - 2 - 2. RW
R 2 + (join to next p of last ring) 2 - 2 ----- 2. RW
(make last picot to be as long as a ring is wide)

CH 2. RW

FIRST CROSS BAR HALF
R 2 ----- 2 - 2 - 2. RW
(make first picot to be as long as a ring is wide)
CH 2 - 2 - 2. RW
R 2 +(join to last p of previous ring) 2 - 2 - 2. RW
CH 2 - (pull up one bead close to ds) 2 - (pull up another bead) 2. (join end of chain to the next picot on the previous ring.)
CH 2 - (pull up one bead close to ds) 2 - (pull up another bead) 2. (join end of chain to the next picot on the previous ring.)
CH 2 - 2 - 2.(join end of chain to the next picot on the next ring.)

CH 2. RW

At this point, using a size 14 steel crochet hook (or your preferred method), slide one pearl bead on each long picot. Next, pull the loop of one of the long picots through the other. Now, slide one more pearl bead onto each long picot. The two picots will be crossed, with the four pearls forming a diamond shape in the middle. You may wish to insert a safety pin in the end of the loop of each picot to hold beads in place until each picot is joined.

BOTTOM OF CROSS

R 2 +(join to long center p of opposite ring - after sliding 2 pearl beads onto long picot as directed above) 2 - 2 - 2. RW
CH 2 - 2 - 2. RW
R 2 +(join to last p of previous ring) 2 - 2 - 2. RW
CH 2 - 2 - 2. RW
R 2 +(join to last p of previous ring) 2 - 2 - 2. RW
CH 2 - 2 - 2.(join end of chain to the next picot on the next ring.)
CH 2 - 2 - 2.(join end of chain to the next picot on the next ring.)

CH 2. RW

SECOND CROSS BAR HALF

R 2 +(join to long center p of opposite ring - after sliding 2 pearl beads onto long picot as directed above) 2 - 2 - 2. RW
CH 2 - 2 - 2. RW
R 2 +(join to last p of previous ring) 2 - 2 - 2.

CH 2.(join end of chain to the next picot on the next ring.)

CH 2 - 2 - 2.(join end of chain to the next picot on the next ring.)
CH 2 - (pull up one bead close to ds) 2 - (pull up another bead) 2. (join end of chain to the top of the first ring.) Do not cut threads.

CHAIN AND PENDANT

For either length of chain, if you cut the shuttle or needle thread from the ball thread at the beginning, or are using two different colors, work the ends of the beginning threads in under the stitches of the chain for a short while to hide the ends.

For Short Chain:
Work a short chain (approximately 1 to 1 1/2 inches) using the first half only of a double stitch. Allow the chain to twist naturally.

For Long Chain:
Work:
12 ds
*
24 first half only of double stitch (allow chain to twist naturally)
12 ds
24 second half only of double stitch (allow chain to twist naturally, will twist in opposite direction)
12 ds
*
Work from * to * 3 times or to desired length.

PENDANT

R 2 - 2 - 2 - 2. RW
CH 2 - (pull up one bead close to ds) 2 - (pull up another bead) 2. (join end of chain to next picot on ring.)
CH 2 - (pull up one bead close to ds) 2 - (pull up another bead) 2. (join end of chain to next picot on ring.)
CH 2 - (pull up one bead close to ds) 2 - (pull up another bead) 2. (join end of chain to next picot on ring.)
CH 2 - (pull up one bead close to ds) 2 - (pull up another bead) 2. (join end of chain to top of ring.) Tie, cut and hide thread ends.
