ALL-RINGS DOILY

By Sharon Albers 1997
Please do not sell or publish this pattern.

This doily is made of rings only, no ball thread or chains are used. All motifs have 6 rings in them. SP 1/2" means leave a length of thread about 1/2 inch long between rings. Directions for thread length between rings are for Knit-Cro-Sheen. If using a different size of thread, adjust length of thread accordingly (about 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the ring).
Where to join the picots in order to join motif's seems incredibly complicated, but you will see it follows a pattern. Two rings of each motif are joined to two rings of adjacent motifs using the 3rd and 5th picots of each. It will become more clear as you work.

1st MOTIF (CENTER OF DOILY):
R 5-3-3-3-3-3-3-5 (total of 7 P's in R) SP 1/2"
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3-3-3-3-3-5 SP 1/2"
Repeat this last R till you have a total of 5 R's
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3-3-3-3-3+(to first P of first R) 5 (Now a total of 6 R's)
SP 1/2" then tie thread to bottom of first R. Cut. Mark this motif temporarily with a strand of contrasting thread, so you will be able to tell which is the center motif as you work.

2nd MOTIF:
R 5-3-3-3-3-3-3-5 (total of 7 P's in R SP 1/2"
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3-3-3+(to 5 P of any R of first motif) 3-
3-5 SP 1/2" (this first joining is to the P on the far side of center of that ring of the 1st motif)
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3+(to 3rd P of next R of first motif) 3-3-3-3-5 SP 1/2" (this next joining is to the P on the near side of center of the ring of the 1st motif)
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3-3-3-3-3-5 SP 1/2"
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3-3-3-3-3-5 SP 1/2"
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3-3-3-3-3+(to first P of first R) 5
SP 1/2" then tie thread to bottom of first R. Cut.

3rd THROUGH 6th MOTIF's:
R 5-3-3-3-3+(to 5th P of right side R of prev. motif) 3-3-5 SP 1/2"
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3+(to 3rd P of next R of prev. motif) 3-3+(to 5th P of prev. R of 1st Motif) 3-3-5 SP 1/2"
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3+(to 3rd P of next R of first motif) 3-3-3-3-5 SP 1/2"
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3-3-3-3-3-5 SP 1/2"
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3-3-3-3-3-5 SP 1/2
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3-3-3-3-3+(to first P of first R) 5
SP 1/2" then tie thread to bottom of first R. Cut.

7th MOTIF:

R 5-3-3-3-3+(to 5th P of right side R of prev. motif) 3-3-5 SP 1/2"
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3+(to 3rd P of next R of prev. motif) 3-3+(to 5th P of prev. R of 1st Motif) 3-3-5 SP 1/2"
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3+(to 3r P of next R of first motif) 3-3+(to 3rd P of 2nd R of 6th Motif) 3-3-5 SP 1/2"
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3+(to 5th P of 1st R of 6th motif) 3-3-3-3-5 SP 1/2"
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3-3-3-3-3-5 SP 1/2"
R 5+(to last P of prev. R) 3-3-3-3-3-3+(to first P of first R) 5
SP 1/2" then tie thread to bottom of first R. Cut.
